The Bauhaus
Too many things to say about the Bauhaus.  Walter Gropius was not alone in creating this masterpiece of a building, for example the entrance foyer (through doors above) was created with aid of Laszlo Moholy-Nagy   who was considered a master of light and movement. Chairs for the auditorium designed by Marcel Breuer.  And the ball and socket door pocket was an idea taken from centuries past.

The Bauhaus group recognized the importance of using materials in a way that they could be easily mass reproduced to provide quality designs at a low cost to everyone

Dachau Concentration Camp

Somber to say the least.  No matter how hard I tried, even after watching all the videos and seeing all the pictures of the camps I still could not imagine this place full of emaciated prisoners, much less actually having to be one.

Herz-Jesu Kirche and Bell Tower

Fuggerei Township
Equivalent to our government housing, living here costs less than 88cents a year; yet, it is a vibrant community filled with young and old alike.

Hohenzollern Castle, stuff of fairy tales.

How the ornamentation comes together

Ahh, flying buttressing

The inside of the Cologne Cathedral is almost inconceivably large.  The columns are bigger than most tree trunks yet it still feels amazing light and airy thanks to the buttressing.  Naturally on a building such as this, the roof loads instead of all coming straight down would want to push outwards, thus the buttressing provides horizontal stability and lateral support.
